Robert William "Bob" Winslow, 83, of Parsons, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Labette Health following a courageous battle with heart disease.
He was born December 22, 1925, in Cherryvale, Kansas, the second of six children, to Harry and Elsie (Hucke) Winslow. Bob spent his early years in Cherryvale and Neodesha before moving to Parsons with his family in 1939.
He attended Parsons High School before joining the U.S. Navy, where he was assigned to active duty in the Pacific as a gunner on supply vessels. Upon completion of military service in 1945, he returned to Parsons, graduating from Parsons Jr. College in 1948.
He and Nora Maye Kramer, of Galesburg, Kansas, were married May 6, 1947. They have remained devoted to each other and celebrated their 62nd anniversary last May.
Before retiring in 1988, Bob was employed for 45 years by the Katy Railroad in Parsons. After retiring, he continued to enjoy his longstanding hobbies of gardening, woodworking, and adoring his children and grandchildren. He also attended Mount Zion Community Church.
