Robert G. Carter, Sr., 89, of Chetopa, died at 8:20 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Labette Health in Parsons.
He was born November 26, 1923 in Chetopa, Kansas to Robert G. and Quintillis (White) Carter. He grew up and attended school in Chetopa where he was a 1942 graduate of Chetopa High School. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy from 1943 through 1946. He was an electrician third class on the USS Brough, an Edsall class destroyer escort in the North Atlantic.
Bob spent his entire life in Chetopa except for a brief period in Arkansas City, Kansas and Coffeyville, Kansas. Through the years, he worked as an electrician at Farmland Co-op Refinery in Coffeyville until retiring in 1980. His memberships included the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the First Baptist Church in Chetopa, and the American Legion. Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and coached Little League and American Legion baseball in Chetopa.
On June 30, 1943 he and Wilma Meriweather were married in Chetopa. She survives of the home.

He so loved his children, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Leona Wright and Bessie Smith; one son, Mark Carter; and great-grandson, Mark Carter, III.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.
