Robert O. "Bob" Crowell, 88, of Oswego, died at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at his home in Oswego.
He was born on August 19, 1931, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Olin S. and Mary E. (Tamm) Crowell. As a child he moved with his family to Humboldt, South Dakota. He graduated high school there in 1949. He worked for the local newspaper before attending South Dakota State College. He then moved to Mullville, Iowa, and he worked for the newspaper there. In 1952, he joined the United States Army and served in Korea. Following his discharge, he lived in Longton, Kansas, then later in Garnett, Kansas. On April 11, 1955, Bob and Beverly C. Moore were married in Moline, Kansas. They moved to Chetopa in 1965. Together they raised five children and co-owned five newspapers, The Chetopa Advance, The Edna Sun, The Mound Valley Times, The Altamont Journal, and Oswego-Independent Observer. In 1998 they retired.
Bob enjoyed golfing and fishing and was a member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego.
Preceding him in death were his parents; Bev preceded him in death on March 8, 2017; brother, Charles Crowell; and sister, Vera Ferry; granddaughters, Emilee Simmons and Jennifer Crowell.

Grandchildren, Grant and Sadie Heithaus and Jessie Kelly, Cody and Lindsey Buntin, Russell and Kelsey Stone, Kyle and Jess Simmons, Patrick and Amanda Crowell, Seth Campbell, Kate Campbell, Rick and Mandy Karstetter and Brandon and Angela Buergin; great-grandchildren, Sophia Heithaus, Chance Crowell, Kyton Crowell, Bexleigh Crowell, Jace Buntin, Bella Buntin, Jensen Stone, Jax Stone, Coston Karstetter, James, Bo, and Paige Zimmerman, Brayden Wadino, Gage Buergin, and great-great grandchild, Kash Zimmerman.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2020, at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the church. The family will receive friends following the rosary. Memorials can be made in the name of St. Rose Cemetery.
