Robert L. Fugate

Robert L. Fugate, 73, of rural Oswego, passed away at 6:25 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at his home.

He was born on November 2, 1945, to Charles and Pearl (Shaw) Fugate in Parsons, Kansas. Growing up in Oswego, he attended school in Oswego and Labette County High School. Before graduating from high school, Robert joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served in the Navy for 10 years and was stationed on the U.S.S. Saratoga air craft carrier for a time. He was a Vietnam veteran and was a member of VFW Post 1186 in Independence, Kansas.

Robert was a Production Manager for Hackney Manufacturing in Independence, Kansas, for several years. He retired in 2008 to care for his son, Richard. Besides spending time with his family, Robert enjoyed fishing and raising peacocks.

On February 14, 1970, Robert married Constance P. "Connie" Calahan in Brownsville, Tennessee. She survives of the home.

One Daughter – Elizabeth Fugate of Columbus, Mississippi

Four Grandchildren – Isaac, Channing, Jackson and Lucas Fugate

Two Sisters – Nora Hamilton of Wichita, Kansas

Mabel Fist of Wichita, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Fugate on January 17, 2019; one brother, Fredrick Fugate; one sister, Lorene Fugate.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2019, at Fairview Cemetery in rural Altamont. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 30 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
