Mound Valley

Robert "Pete" Hedrick, Jr., 85, of Mound Valley, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born February 27, 1936 in rural Mound Valley, Kansas to Robert Hedrick, Sr. and Mildred (Carson) Hedrick.  He grew up and attended schools in Mound Valley and graduated from the Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1954.  Through the years, Pete worked mainly as a heavy equipment operator including for Warren Keltz Construction, Heck and Wicker Construction and Ronnie Ginn.  He also worked for Ducommun in Parsons and the Hackney Manufacturing Company in Independence for a time until retiring.  One of the highlights of his career, was doing trenching work for water lines into the various towns to be served by the Big Hill Lake Reservoir.  He had also farmed in earlier years.

Pete loved to hunt and fish.  He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and especially enjoyed eating good cooking and being with his family.

Pete was united in marriage to Beulah "Bea" Thomas on September 1, 1956 in Mound Valley.   She survives, of the home.

He is survived by four sons:  Robert Hedrick, III (Kathy) of Mound Valley

Kevin Hedrick (Billi Jo) of Mound Valley

Mike Hedrick (Revecca) of Mound valley

Bo Hedrick (Kim) of Mound Valley

Nine Grandchildren:  Zak Hedrick, Reece Hedrick, Zach Hight, Cory Hight, Madison Hedrick, Seth Smith, Bridget Smith, Daphne Hedrick, and Eli Hedrick.

One Sister:  Shirley Grant of Paris, Missouri

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Mound Valley Cemetery officiated by Pastor Travis Modesitt.  Friends may call at the Altamont United Methodist Church fellowship hall from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m., Thursday to sign the book.  The Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Altamont is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mound Valley Fire Department and these may be mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 325, Altamont, Kansas  67330.
