Robert A. Koopman, 75, of Chetopa, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2016 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
He was born March 25, 1941 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Albert Arnold and Thelma (Engle) Koopman. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Navy as a medic. After 23 ½ years of service to his country, he returned to Chetopa in 1983. While living in Chetopa, he worked as a jailer for the Labette County Sheriff's Department in Oswego and later at Jump Start in Chetopa until retiring.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Robert loved animals, going to casinos, and visiting with people.
On November 26, 1983, he and Marilyn Thompson were married. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2005.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Gustin and Terry Swan; and two sisters, Margaret Dowdy and Jean Weaver.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
