Roberta Vernon, 90, of Parsons, passed away at 9:20 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society.
Roberta Lagor was born on February 27, 1932, to William and Philomena (Pine) Lagor in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She grew up and attended school in Rhode Island, graduating from St. Xavier Academy in Providence, Rhode Island.
On February 14, 1953, Roberta and Robert L. Vernon were united in marriage in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Following marriage, the couple made a home in Wichita. In 1967, the family moved to Altamont, where they lived until moving to Parsons in 1989. Throughout the years, Roberta worked at Day & Zimmerman, Altamont City Hall and Seaton-Wood Insurance. After the couple retired, they sold their home and spent the next 12 years traveling in their RV before returning to Parsons. Robert preceded her in death on December 10, 2016.
Roberta was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Swing & Twirl Dance Club, and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Labette Health. Besides volunteering at the hospital, Roberta enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Square dancing, crocheting and camping were favorite past times. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

One son – Robert L. Vernon, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Apache Junction, Arizona
Three daughters – Debbie Sprague and her husband, Joe, of Parsons, Kansas
Carol Ludwig and her husband, Mark, of Parsons, Kansas
Sherie Spencer and her husband, Brent, of Hesston, Kansas
Eleven grandchildren
Two step-grandchildren
Seventeen great-grandchildren
Four step-great-grandchildren
Two brothers – Raymond Lagor of Florida
William Lagor of Florida
Three sisters – Lillian Eichholz of Rhode Island
Rosemarie Klucznik of Louisiana
Marion Kulik of Massachusetts
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; three grandchildren and three brothers, Charlie Lagor, James Lagor, and Larry Lagor.
The funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic School Gymnasium. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30, before the funeral Mass. Burial will be Monday, January 23, 2023, at Fort Scott National Cemetery.
