Rodger D. Smith, 60, of rural Oswego, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at his home following a courageous battle with kidney disease.
He was born August 7, 1957 in Parsons, Kansas to Raymond Dale and Betty Jo (Nutt) Smith. He grew up and attended school in the rural West Mineral/McCune area and was a 1975 graduate of Southeast High School in Cherokee. While attending Southeast High School, Rodger was active in FFA and earned the Star Farmer Award. He then attended Fort Scott Community College.
Throughout his adult life, Rodger farmed and raised cattle. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Rodger was a member of the Western Way Cowboy Church.
In June of 2002, Rodger met the love of his life. On December 7, 2002, he and Cynthia L. "Cindy" Spriggs were married at the Oswego Christian Church. She survives of the home.

A Host of Friends
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at Sherman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
