Roger S. Yost

Roger S. Yost, 62, of Chetopa, passed away at 8:35 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

He was born June 29, 1954 in Parsons, Kansas to Gorden W. and Ruby N. (Caldwell) Yost.  As a young boy he grew up in rural Chetopa and attended schools in Welch, OK where he graduated from Welch High School.

Following high school, he attended Ironworkers Local Union 584 Apprentice Training Center in Tulsa before joining the United States Coast Guard in 1973.  While in the Coast Guard, he served as a Coast Guardsman in Search and Rescue.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, he returned to Chetopa and worked for Ironworkers Local Union 584.

Roger's priority was his children and seeing that their needs were always met.  He was a hard worker and enjoyed fishing as a hobby.  He was a member of the Ironworkers Local Union 584

He and Kerry Lamb were married in December of 1977.   They later divorced.

Survivors include his Mother – Ruby Yost of Chetopa, KS; One Son – Casey Yost and his fiancé, Mandy Garretson, Chetopa, KS; One Daughter – Melanie Yost,   Muldrow, OK; One Stepson – Michael Shawn Silvey, Muldrow, OK; One Stepdaughter – Sherry Elizabeth Silvey, Muldrow, OK; Four Grandchildren – Ryan, Alex, Adrian, and Khayle; Five Step-Grandchildren- Faith, Austin, Trevor, Kade and Joe; One Brother – Ronald Yost and his wife, Debbie, Chetopa, KS; Two Sisters – Carolyn Alexander, Reeds Spring, MO and  Rhonda Wilson and her husband, Larry, Branson, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gorden Yost, on August 29, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
