Roland C. Reed

Roland C. Reed, 97, of Oswego, formerly of Altamont, died at 4:27 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Oswego Home Place.

He was born January 8, 1916, in Arlington, Kansas to Carl Samuel and Fannie Belle (Locke) Reed. As a young boy, he was raised in the Arlington area. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Vilas, Colorado where he attended Baca County Elementary School and Vilas High School.


On August 27, 1938 he married Delpha Mae Kennard in Lamar, Colorado. In January of 1940, the couple moved to the rural Altamont area where he farmed, hauled milk for Beatrice Foods for seven years, and was a truck driver 18 years at the Bartlett Co-op. After retiring, they made their home in Altamont where they lived until his wife of 71 years preceded him in death on December 1, 2009.

His family was his passion. He loved being a parent and grandparent and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed dancing and music and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. He was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church.

Survivors include:
Two Sons, Jerald Reed and wife, Mary of Parsons, KS and Larry Reed and wife, Donna of Grove, OK; One Daughter, Kay Wages and husband, Terry of Topeka, KS; Six Grandchildren, Delvin Reed and wife, Cheryl, Kristine (Reed) Foussadier and husband, Keith, Thad Wages, Brant Reed and wife, Stacie, Kamille (Wages) Lamb and husband, Jeremy, Nicole (Reed) Dean and husband, Charlie: Twelve Great-Grandchildren; Four Great-Great-Grandchildren; One Step-Sister, Lola Franklin and husband, Bill of Hutchinson, KS

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, step-father and one step-sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Friends may call at their convenience from 2-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
