Ronald L. Madl, 79, of Altamont, died at 9:55 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 29, 1933 at rural Erie, Kansas to Louis E. and Marguerite(Whitworth) Madl. He grew up and attended school at St. Paul, Kansas. He had worked at filling stations in St. Paul following high school. He entered the United States Navy in March of 1956 and served until December of 1957 when he was discharged.
Ron was employed with the Kansas Department of Transportation in Topeka for 20 years until moving to Altamont, Kansas on February 17, 1978 where he served as a supervisor for seventeen years before retiring.
Ron loved gardening, hunting and fishing as well as going to casinos. He was always known for his keen sense of humor.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis J. "Jeanie" Shepard on August 29, 1958 at Topeka, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include a son, David Madl and his wife, Rose of Mound Valley, Kansas; one daughter, Debra Smith of Altamont; three grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Kendra Creel and her husband, Doug and Kassia Bolden and her husband Marshal; six great-grandchildren, Allison Creel, Ashlynn Creel, Jared Creel, Reagen Annabelle Smith, Blake Bolden and Riley Bolden; three brothers, Fred Madl of Ketchum, Oklahoma, Richard Madl of Joplin, Missouri and Tom Madl of St. Paul, Kansas and two sisters, Jeanie Whiting of Humboldt, Kansas and Patty Locke of Ft. Scott, Kansas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Louis Madl and a son-in-law Andy Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.
