Rose N. Carpenter, 77, of Parsons, formerly of Walnut, Kansas, died at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, January 25, 2009, at the Elm Haven West Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born February 6, 1931, in rural Walnut, to Joe and Mary May (Crow) Clagg. She grew up and attended schools in Walnut and was a 1950 graduate of Walnut High School.
She and James Wesley Carpenter were married October 22, 1951, in Erie, Kansas. While her husband was in the service, they lived in various areas. Upon his discharge, they returned to Kansas where they lived in Erie and the Walnut area. Following the death of her husband, she continued living there until entering the nursing home in Parsons.
She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Erie, and was currently a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Parsons. She enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking and bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carpenter, on February 2, 1979; and one grandson, Tony.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at the Berean Baptist Church in Parsons. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
