Rose Marie Houston

Rose Marie Houston, 78, of Parsons, died at 9:56 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born July 7, 1930, in Parsons, to Leon Shaw, Sr. and Edith Susan (Watkins) Shaw. She grew up in Parsons where she attended Douglas Elementary School, graduated from Parsons Sr. High and earned an Associate Degree at Parsons Junior College.

She and Rayford Houston were married August 13, 1981. He preceded her in death March 25, 1998.

She was employed by Westbrook Manor and later the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center where she worked in environmental services until retiring.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, foot 'n mouth canasta, and watching her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Langston Chapter #39, and the Vougette Club. She served on the SEKAP Multi-County Board and was a Head Start volunteer. For over 50 years, she was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church were she served as church secretary and mission president. She also served as the Southeast District mission secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerald Shaw and Edward Shaw.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
