Roy Jess Henson

November 17, 1932 — October 7, 2006

Roy Jess Henson, 73, of Chetopa, died at 5:15 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home following a long battle with lung cancer.

He was born November 17, 1932 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Robert and Opal Henson. He was raised by his grandparents, Jess and Edna McLain in Checotah until his grandfather's death in 1949. He and his grandmother then moved to Hanford, California to be near his family.

Roy was a Korean veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from January 20, 1953 to January 21, 1955. He was employed at KOBE, a steel factory in Huntington Park, California as a young man. He was injured in a work-related accident and had been disabled since that time. He had lived in California and Georgia before moving to Chetopa in 1997.

Roy was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jess and Edna McLain; his parents, Robert and Opal Henson; and one brother Bob McLain.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa with Rev. Randy Frazier officiating. Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa at their convenience.
