Roy E. Samples, 77, of Parsons, died at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born on November 30, 1940 in San Diego, California to Tommy and Betty (Newkirk) Samples. The family moved to Parsons in the 1950's where he grew up and attended schools.
Mr. Samples worked at the Jarboe Feedlot, Swift and Co., and the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. He later worked for the M-K-T Railroad where he retired following 19 years of employment. He also farmed and raised cattle.
He enjoyed camping, being in the outdoors, and buggy riding. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He and Jean Dixon were married on March 31, 1960 in Independence. They later divorced. He and Kim Coburn were married on September 9, 2016, She survives of the home.

Three grandchildren: Amy Samples, Hailey Schild, and Nathan Schild
Three great-grandchildren: Byron Thomas, Olivia Thomas, and Christopher Peoples
Two Sisters – Teena Davis Scammon, KS
Shirl Toynton and her husband Chuck Parsons
Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother and step-father Orla Franklin, one brother Jim Samples, one sister Dot Cooper, and a grandson Christopher Dean Samples.
