Ruth I. Raney

Ruth I. Raney, 86, of Erie, died Friday afternoon, March 7, 2008, at her home.

She was born September 26, 1921, in Erie, to Hurley Bohrer and Louie Dell (Lydick) Bohrer. She grew up and attended schools in Erie. In 1939, she graduated from Erie High School as Valedictorian of her senior class.

She worked as a rural mail carrier for twenty years retiring in 1988.

She was an active member of the Erie Federated Church, participating in the UMW, and helped with many funeral dinners. She was also a member of the Kimball Merry Mixers, the Monday Study Club, a life member and former president of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Mobile and Erie Thrift Shop, and served on the election board. She enjoyed quilting and was an excellent seamstress.

She and Morris "Dutch" Raney were married on September 2, 1941 at Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1988.

Nancy Opela and her husband, Dick Prague, OK
Linda Weidert and her husband, Larry Erie, KS
Twenty-three grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren
One brother:
Rex Bohrer and his wife, Francie Erie, KS
Two sisters:
Pauline Burke Galesburg, KS
Dorotha White Erie, KS

She was preceded in death by one brother, Hurley Bohrer, Jr., and two sisters, Elizabeth in infancy, and Jeannie Runyon.



Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Erie Federated Church. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening form 7 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to either the Erie Community Foundation or to the Erie Federated Church. Memorials can be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
