Ruth Evangeline Smith, a long-time resident of Chetopa, passed away Wednesday October 27, 2016 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ruth was born July 12, 1925 in Chetopa, Kansas to John Francis and Edith Mae Luman. She married Donald Elliott Smith in 1946. While living the majority of their life in Chetopa, Ruth engaged in many local activities and was an active member of the Chetopa United Methodist Church. She excelled at being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruth loved family, friends, reading, dining-out and music; however, she will be most remembered for her sense of humor and joy in laughter.
She is survived by her son Donald James (Jim) Smith and wife Marsha of Firestone, CO; and her daughter Cathy Ann Gifford and husband Bill of Sapulpa, OK. She is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous, nieces, nephews, and close relatives.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1993; one daughter, Judith Smith; one brother, Gilbert Adam Luman; and a sister, Frances Adeline Wade.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
