Sally S. McKinzie, 79, of rural Altamont, passed away the evening of Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Freeman Health Systems in Joplin.
Sally Sue Mansfield was born on January 9, 1944, to Bernard Eldon and Sarah Maxine (Claxton) Mansfield in McCune, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in McCune. In 1962, Sally graduated and earned a testimonial in secretarial training from Labette County Community High School.
Following high school, she worked at the State Bank of Parsons. On December 26, 1964, Sally and Ronald V. "Ron" McKinzie were united in marriage at the McCune United Methodist Church. While Ron was serving in the United States Army, the couple lived in Germany. Upon Ron's discharge, the couple settled in Fredonia for a year, before establishing their farm and ranch in the Altamont area, where they have lived since. In 1978, Sally began working at the Farm Service Agency, where she worked for 33 years until her retirement.
A devoted Christian, Sally was a member of the Western Way Cowboy Church in Altamont. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved riding horses, swimming and camping. Sally also enjoyed her Coca-Cola and Hummel collections.

Her husband of 58 years – Ron, of the home
Two sons – Travis McKinzie (Laurie) of Roy, Washington
Troy McKinzie (Janice) of Altamont, Kansas
Eight grandchildren – Ryan McKinzie, Sierra McKinzie, Troy Brook, Teale White (Thad), Taley McKinzie (Chris Gobin), Ginger Weathers, Saffron Chapman, and Mace Chapman
Two great-grandchildren – Annistyn Gobin and Brechlyn Gobin
One brother – James Mansfield (Elsa) of Rancho Cordova, California
One sister – Patty Dick (Melvin) of Independence, Kansas
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Several honorary children and grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Max Mansfield and Joe Mansfield.
The Celebration of Life for Sally will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023, at Western Way Cowboy Church in rural Altamont. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
