Samuel D. "Sam" Hawkins, III, 76, of Parsons, passed away at 1:56 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2021, at Labette Health.
Samuel Dorrow Hawkins, III, was born on March 8, 1945, to Samuel Dorrow Hawkins, II and Ruth Lorene (Every) Hawkins in Kansas City, Missouri. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Parsons, where he grew up and attended school. He entered the United States Army in 1963 and served his country through the 1960's.
After his time in the military, Sam returned to Parsons and worked for various tree trimming companies over the years.
He was a member of Brown-Bishop, Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Two of his favorite activities were hunting and fishing.
In 1965, Sam and Mary C. James were united in marriage. The couple later divorced.

Three sons – Larry Hawkins of Independence, Kansas
Theodore Hawkins (Lisa Hogan) of Parsons, Kansas
Sammy Hawkins of Independence, Kansas
Two daughters – Shena Hall of Independence, Kansas
LaCelia Raida (Gary Van Royen) of Independence, Kansas
Twelve grandchildren
Thirty-six great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Celia Ann Greenough.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., January 5, 2022, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m., January 5, until the service begins.
