Samuel "Sam" Jorgenson, 93, of Welch, Oklahoma, passed away at 1:45 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Medicalodge in Columbus, Kansas.


He was born December 27,1915, in Salem, South Dakota, to Sam and Sophia Jorgenson.

On June 24, 1940, he and Edith Mae Stevens were married in Pipestone, Minnesota. The couple owned, operated and managed businesses in Winfred, South Dakota; Chetopa, Kansas; and Welch, Oklahoma. They developed the first organic farm in the State of Oklahoma where they were instrumental in raising hay and beef. For a number of years, he also owned and operated the Vermeer farm equipment dealership in this area. She preceded him in death October 20, 2005.

Sam especially enjoyed visiting with people in the community and in surrounding areas.

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
