Sarah L. Baird, 80, of rural Parsons, passed away the morning of Friday, March 4, 2022, at her home.
Sarah Lavon Crater was born on May 13, 1941, to Ira Raymond and Evaline Amanda (Maloney) Crater in Mound Valley, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Labette County, attending Labette County Community High School.
On December 30, 1960, Sarah and Gail L. Baird were united in marriage at the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Parsons. The couple spent their first year of marriage in Manhattan, Kansas, while Gail completed his studies at Kansas State University. They then settled in rural Parsons, where they farmed for many years. A tireless worker, Sarah worked on and off the farm.
Known for her wonderful cooking, Sarah's greatest joy came from making a delicious meal for large family gatherings. She was a devoted wife and mother, who loved spending time with her family.

Her husband of 61 years – Gail Baird, of the home
Two daughters – Brenda Moore and her husband, Bob, of Bartlett, Kansas
Shari Kimrey and her husband, Don, of Cherokee, Kansas
Two sons – Bryan Baird and his wife, Gayla, of Houston, Texas
Greg Baird and his wife, Shellie, of Joplin, Missouri
Five grandchildren – Brad Moore and his wife, Stephanie, of Bartlett, Kansas; Bethany Moore of Altamont, Kansas; Amanda Jones and her husband, Jared, of Oswego, Kansas; Grant Baird and his wife, Caroline, of Texas; and Jenna Baird of Texas
Four great-grandchildren – Jaylie, Lane and Rhett Moore of Bartlett, Kansas; Wesson Jones of Oswego, Kansas; and Levi Baird of Texas
One sister – Helen Evans of Parsons, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jim Crater; and two sisters, Alvera Erskin and Donna Garcia.
The graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett with Pastor Randy Beeman officiating. Friends may stop by the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons to sign the register from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday.
