Scott Grassl

Donald "Scott" Grassl, 45, of Oswego, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at his home.

He was born May 2, 1972 in Independence, Kansas to Donald Francis and Esther Lee (McCardie) Grassl.  As a young boy, he attended Independence Bible School through sixth grade before moving with his family to Altamont in 1983.  While living in Altamont, he attended seventh and eighth grade at Altamont Grade School and graduated in 1990 from Labette County High School.  He then attended Labette Community College in Parsons where he earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1991, Scott was employed by Labette County as a dispatcher before he attended Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center and became a deputy.  In 1996, he began employment with the Kansas Highway Patrol where he earned the rank of Master Trooper prior to taking medical retirement in 2013. While serving on the Kansas Highway Patrol, Scott received the Superintendent's Award, which is the highest award given by KHP.  He also received the Commander's Commendation which is awarded to recognize deeds beyond the demand of normal duty and for outstanding performance. He most recently had served Labette County as the deputy coroner.

He was a member of the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church.  Several years ago, he volunteered as a fireman in the Altamont area, and recently had served on the Oswego City Council, and was currently serving on the Oswego Planning and Zoning Commission. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

He and Brandy McKee were married on May 3, 2003 in Labette City.  She survives of the home.

Sister-in-law – Jessica Sproul and her husband, David, of Oswego, KS

Nephews – Matthew Potchen and Wyatt Sproul

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Grassl, on October 13, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Harrison Auditorium, on the campus of Labette County High School, in Altamont. Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, at Harrison Auditorium.

Memorials are suggested to the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church or the Kansas State Troopers Association. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.
