Sheila Catherine Miller

February 21, 1944 — April 24, 2010

Sheila Catherine Miller, 66, of Parsons, Kansas, died at 10:37 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010, at her home. She had suffered with Multiple Sclerosis for many years and death was anticipated.

She was born to Gregory S. and Rita (Holmes) Hartlaub in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 21, 1944. She grew to adulthood in Cincinnati. She attended St. William's Parochial School, Seton High School and Mercy Hospital Nursing School in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a Registered Nurse and held the position of Head Nurse of the Surgical ICU at the University of Cincinnati General Hospital.

On June 25, 1971, she married Dr. Stephen F. Miller, of Parsons, Kansas, in Cincinnati. She continued to live in Cincinnati while Dr. Miller served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict and during the 1970's while he was a surgical resident at the University of Cincinnati.

In 1979, she moved with the family to Parsons, Kansas, and has lived there since. Before being incapacitated by Multiple Sclerosis, she was active in St. Patrick's Catholic Church and school organizations, and all of the activities of her four children. She was also a member of Kansas Medical Society Alliance. She served as a Girl Scout Brownie leader, enjoyed bowling, loved to travel, and especially enjoyed seeing the country with her family in their motor home. Multiple Sclerosis gradually robbed her of all voluntary motion over the years and she was cared for at home until her death.
