Shirley A. Soliday

February 24, 1940 — October 12, 2016

Neodesha

Shirley Ann Soliday, my beautiful bride of fifty-five years, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 6:33 p.m. She was born on February 24, 1940 in rural McAlester, OK to Bernard Cleo and Ruth (Dunn) Harrington, and attended schools in Stuart, OK.

June 2, 1962 was one of the best days of my life as we began our journey together as husband and wife at the Friendship Church of the Nazarene in Stuart. Our years of ministry led us to Osborne, Hugoton and Manhattan, KS; and Nevada, MO before moving to Neodesha where Shirley taught in the school system for 23 years until her retirement.

She was a member of the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene, and also worked extensively with the Joplin District Church of the Nazarene. She said that God had placed it on her heart several years before meeting me that she wanted to marry a pastor, and live a life serving Christ and others – and no one did that better than my beloved.

Shirley was not only an extraordinary wife, but an incredible mother and grandmother. Our sons, Sam (Noelle) and their daughters, Alexandra and Danielle; and Dan and his children, Corbin (Rachel), Andrea and Caleb brightened her life in a way that only they could. When Sam and Dan were little, whether we were worshipping together, enjoying the cool mountains of Colorado, or watching our boys play football, Shirley was their greatest fan and cheerleader. Through the years, we have watched them grow to become honorable, good men of faith who are committed to serving others.

Shirley will be missed by her brother, Coy Harrington (Sue) and her sister, Janie Echelle (Condo), both from Stuart, OK. She often told stories of her childhood, and was grateful for her siblings and the impact they made in her life.

I miss my best friend, my confidante, and my partner. I miss her laughter, the way she spoke my name, and even the tears we shared together. I know that her battle with her physical body was long, so I am thankful that she no longer suffers. I look back, even in these last few difficult years, and treasure our conversations, her smiles, embraces and her never-ending faith - and truly praise God for our life together for these many years.

Our family will be available for visitation on Sunday from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene. Shirley's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 17, also at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene.

Memorials are suggested to the Shirley Soliday Memorial Camp Fund, which will send youth to summer camp, a cause that was near and dear to her heart. These may be left or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.

In Christ,
