Shirley A. Thompson, 72, of Chetopa, died at 4:50 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2013 at her home in Chetopa.
She was born September 27, 1940 in rural Cherokee County, Kansas to Manley Fulkerson, Sr. and Neva (Hayward) Fulkerson. She was a 1958 graduate of Chetopa High School.
In earlier years, she had worked as a cook at Edith's and the Cozy Castle. She then worked as a therapist at The Home Place in Oswego and Chetopa Manor Nursing Home for a total of 30 years.
She loved watching sports from Little League to the pros. She was an avid fan of the Pittsburg State Gorillas, Kansas City Chiefs, Chetopa Hornets and was a member of the Chetopa Hornet Booster Club. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa, the VFW Auxiliary #10508, and a former member of the Chetopa Volunteer Ambulance Service.
She and Charles Pat "Chuck" Thompson were married September 27, 1967 in Vinita, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Manley Fulkerson, Jr.; one sister, Dorothy Fessler; and one stepbrother, Donnie Davis.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
