Stella M. Clevenger

Stella M. Clevenger, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 11:40 a.m. in the Labette Health Emergency Room.

Stella Mae (Pierson) Clevenger was born April 13, 1929 in rural Chetopa to James G. Pierson and Ethel (Reed) Pierson.  She grew up in Chetopa, graduating from Chetopa High School in 1947 where she played basketball.  She married Clyde E. Clevenger in Chetopa in 1947.  He preceded her in death on March 23, 1978.  After marriage she was a homemaker and avid gardener.  Later in life she worked at the garment factory in Chetopa and as a waitress and cook at the Redwood Café in Chetopa, the TBone in Edna and most recently the Buckboard in Chetopa, from where she retired.

She loved fishing and would not only catch the most fish; she would also clean them and cook them!  She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.  She also enjoyed occasionally going to the casinos and playing Bingo.

Stella is survived by 2 sons:  Bill Clevenger (Pam) of Edna

Richard Clevenger (Diane) of Parsons

2 Daughters:  Debbie Barnett (Mike) of Shawnee

Laura Miller (Roger) of Ft. Scott

11 Grandchildren and 21 Great-Grandchildren with 2 Great-Great Grandchildren on the way.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 son.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa with the Rev. Clarence Newman officiating.  Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Lake Creek Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
