Steven Wayne "Hawk" Rooney, 52, of Festus, Missouri, formerly of Columbus, Kansas, died at 2:45 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011, at his home.
He was born April 27, 1959, in Oswego, Kansas, to Charles and Martha (Tomey) Rooney. As a young boy he moved to Columbus with his family where he attended school and graduated from Columbus High School in 1977.
He lived in Branson, Missouri for seven years where he worked at Silver Dollar City as a blacksmith. He then moved to Festus, Missouri approximately 10 years ago. He was honored to be involved in the manufacturing of 184 memorial benches for the 9/11 Pentagon victims and took great pride in this effort.
In younger years, he attended The Assembly of God Church in Chetopa and later the Assembly of God Church in Columbus. He also belonged to the Black Dog Trail Mountain Man Club. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed woodcarving and knife making.
He married Teresa Tomlinson in Oswego in 1978. They later divorced. In December of 2009, he and Linda Reid were married. She survives of the home.

One Brother – Mark Rooney & wife, Shawnee Grove, OK
One Sister – Krista Crowder and husband, John Carl Junction, MO
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
