Sylvia J. Busbee

Sylvia J. Busbee, 88, of rural Bartlett, passed away at 1:18 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021, at her home.

Sylvia Jean Forbes was born on December 7, 1932, to Erle Ellsworth and Vera Madura (Hassler) Forbes in Los Angeles, California.  As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Los Angeles.  She earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate.

On July 17, 1960, Sylvia and Leslie C. Busbee were united in marriage in Guthrie, Oklahoma.  For over 55 years, the couple lived and pastored in various communities throughout the country, including Anthony, Kansas; Springfield, Missouri; Coffeyville, Kansas; Guthrie, Oklahoma; and Enid, Oklahoma, where they retired in 2015.

Sylvia's life exemplified her love for the Lord.  She devoted her entire life to serving Him and sharing His love with others.  She was an active member of the Church of God.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Survivors include:

One son – Phillip G. Busbee of Guthrie, Oklahoma

Two daughters – Jeanne Eck and her husband, Herschel, of Bartlett, Kansas

Angela Gellenbeck and her husband, Dan, of Gravel Switch, Kentucky

One daughter-in-law – Dee Ann Busbee of Guthrie, Oklahoma

Eighteen grandchildren

Twelve great-grandchildren

One brother-in-law – Leland Busbee and his wife, Barbara, of Lorena, Texas

Four sisters-in-law – Sandra Porter and her husband, Richard, of Lake Park, Georgia

Dorothy Busbee of Woodward, Oklahoma

Maxine Busbee of Edmond, Oklahoma

Elke Forbes of Sylmar, California

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie, on July 18, 2016; two sons, Joseph Erle Busbee in 1964, and Jonathan Ray Busbee in 2003; three brothers; and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the Church of God Chapel, 304 W. Lakeview Drive, Guthrie, Oklahoma.  Burial will follow at the Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie.
