Edna

T.W. Stone, 94, a longtime Edna, Kansas resident, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Willard Care Center in Willard, Missouri.

On August 3, 1925, T. W. Stone was born to Edward Laird and Eunice Chlotilda (Miller) Stone in Edna, Kansas. T.W. grew up and attended Edna Grade School and Edna High School.

He joined the United States Navy and from 1943 to 1946, served on the U.S.S. Lesuth. After serving in the U.S. Navy, T.W. joined the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 930 th Ordinance Group from Parsons and served in Korea from 1950 to 1952.

Upon returning to Kansas, T.W. worked on the M K T Railroad from 1947 to 1960. He then was a cook in the restaurant at Matfield Green on the Kansas Turnpike from 1960 to 1969. T.W. retired as a Kansas Turnpike Authority Restaurant Inspector in 1988.

T.W. was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church. In his retirement, T.W. was very active in Edna. He volunteered as the "Conoco Man" at the Woodshed and worked at the Historical Museum. In 1987, he started the U.S.S. Lesuth Reunion, which continued for about twenty years. A great personal achievement for T.W. was instituting and organizing the Avenue of Flags at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. A proud veteran of two wars, T.W. along with the help of his wife, started a beautiful and patriotic tradition for the Edna community that still continues.

In 1947, T.W. married Rosia Mae Harris. The couple later divorced. T.W. and Hazel (Smith) Joslin were united in marriage on February 14, 1992. Hazel preceded him in death on February 10, 2003.

Survivors Include:

Two Step-daughters – Billie Van Winkle of Willard, Missouri

Charline Hampson and her husband, Dennis, of Blue Springs, Missouri

Seven Grandchildren

Twenty-one Great Grandchildren

Four Great-Great Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Stone, on February 10, 2003; one brother, Laird Stone; and two sisters, Marjorie Alloway and Genivie Walters.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Edna United Methodist Church in Edna, Kansas.  Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins.  Burial will follow at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery in Edna.  Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Parsons, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Edna Bank Flag Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
