Thomas J. Crispell, DVM, 79, a longtime Parsons veterinarian, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
He was born March 27, 1929, in Parsons, to Thomas P. and Hazel (Moore) Crispell. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons graduating from Parsons High School in 1947. Following high school graduation, he attended Kansas State University graduating with a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
He and Phyllis J. Hughes were married August 5, 1951. After marriage, he fulfilled duty in the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
Crispell began his veterinary practice with his father and brother, in Parsons, and continued until 1964 when he joined Bogue Animal Practice in Wichita, Kansas. Upon the death of his brother, Tom returned to Parsons to continue his practice until his retirement in 1995. His wife of 44 years, Phyllis Crispell, preceded him in death in 1995.
Dr. Crispell was an active participant in civic events in Parsons, serving numerous years on the USD 503 Board of Education and the Parsons Planning Commission. Crispell was also a member of the Kansas State Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas State Alumni Association, First Presbyterian Church in Parsons, the Historical Society and was always an enthusiastic planner of high school reunions.
On August 12, 2000, he and Laurilla A. (Cox) Fowler were married. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 19, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
