Thomas Franklin "Frank" Moore, 78, passed away at 2:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the family home in St. Paul, Kansas, with his wife by his side, following a brief illness. He had suffered with rheumatoid arthritis for years.
He was born August 8, 1929, in Sparks, Oklahoma, the youngest of eight children, to John H. and Nora Ellen (Vuncannon) Moore. The Moore family ancestry is Volga German from Russia. He grew up in Mountain Home, Arkansas, on Walker Road.
He enlisted in the Navy in November 1949 and served in the Korean War on the Troop Carrier USS Menifee. He served as a Boatswain's mate 3rd class. Some of his duties on ship were steering, playing the boatswain's pipe and caring for ropes. He also ran the quarter deck and crane and was a good shot. He watched and protected the off- duty sailors from sharks while swimming at sea.
While on leave, he met a nurse, Margaret Louise Kennedy in Wichita, Kansas. The couple married May 7, 1954, in Long Beach, California. They had two sons, Charles and Thomas, and made their home in Redondo Beach. The couple later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he worked for Kice Metal Products as a welder. Upon retiring in 1984, Frank and his wife, Peg, lived at Lake McKinley, then Parsons, Kansas. They recently moved to St. Paul, Kansas, where his wife grew up.
In his many years of retirement, he enjoyed the out of doors, fishing, making flies, carpentry, gardening and bird watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his dog, Calie.
He leaves his wife, Margaret "Peg" (Kennedy) Moore of the home in St. Paul, Kansas; two sons, eldest son, Charlie E. Moore and his wife, Teresa Darnall-Moore of Chautauqua, KS, their son, Daytan of Denver, CO, and stepson, Shay Ledbetter of Broomfield, CO; youngest son, Tom Moore and his wife, Tanya, and daughter, Jennifer, all of Wichita, KS.
The family is gathering at the family home in St. Paul, Kansas. Private family services will be held at a later date. The Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons is in charge of cremation.
