Thomas M. "Tom" Swafford, 79, of Parsons, died at 2:35 pm Thursday, November 11, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons.
He was born March 23, 1923 at Indianola, Oklahoma to William Seth and Zora Effie (Gorley) Swafford. He grew up and attended school in Oklahoma and Arizona.
He was married to Edith Viola Marsh on November 30, 1943 at Columbus, Kansas. She preceded him in death when she passed away on their 51st Anniversary, November 30, 1994.
Following their marriage, they lived for a time in the Parsons and Kansas City area. Most of their married life, they lived in Parsons where he operated the Swafford Tree Trimming and Cutting Service.
He enjoyed doing recycling. He attended the Church of God in Parsons.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel, Ray and Mark Swafford, all of Parsons; one daughter, Marsha Rodriguez of Coffeyville; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with Rev. John Chastain officiating. Burial will follow at the Hosey Hill Cemetery near Weir, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. John's Hospice.
