Tommy R. "Tom" Haney, 56, of Parsons, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Freeman West in Joplin, Missouri.

Tom was born on April 23, 1964, to Bobby "Charles" and Wanda Lee (Graves) Haney in Norman, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended school in Norman, graduating from Norman High School in 1982. As a high school wrestler, he was noticed and recruited by Labette Community College wrestling coach, Jody Thompson, to attend LCC. While at LCC, he went on to be an All-American wrestler. Following earning an Associate's degree, Tom began working at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. He recently retired after working there for over 30 years.

He was an active member of the Fredonia Congregation of the Jehovah's Witness.  Over the years, Tom served on the Regional Building Committee, preparing food for the building crews. He also helped facilitate the parking at the church's district conventions.

A gentle giant, Tom's favorite thing in life was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, and friends. He also enjoyed running the sound system for events at the Parsons Municipal Auditorium; watching sports, especially OU; grilling; traveling; and playing golf.

On October 4, 1986, Tom and Sarah M. Barrett were united in marriage in Pittsburg, Kansas. She survives of the home.

One granddaughter – Zoey Graven of Parsons, Kansas

One brother – Bob Haney and his wife, Tracey, of Norman, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Haney, on April 27, 2003; his parents; and one brother, Gary Haney.
