Parsons

Tommy Warren "Tom" Mitchell, 74, of Parsons, passed away at 12:23 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Labette Health.

He was born on April 26, 1946, to Warren Perry and Leola Fern (Jones) Mitchell in Coffeyville, Kansas.  As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Edna.  In 1964, he graduated from Labette County Community High School, where he had played football and baseball and ran track.  He then attended Coffeyville Community College.

For 26 years, Tom worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman.  In 1988, he suffered an injury from a diving accident that caused him to be disabled.

In his younger years, Tom was a member of the Altamont Baptist Church.  Two of Tom's favorite things were watching high school sports and supporting Labette County High School.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors.  Most Parsonians will remember him as the friendly gentleman sitting at the corner of Central and Main waving at the passersby.  Tom had a huge heart, especially for our veterans, and he put special effort into making donations to veteran organizations.
