Velma A. Carnahan, 91, of Woodridge Estates in Parsons, and formerly of Altamont, passed away at 11:17 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2021, at Elm Haven East Nursing Home, in Parsons.
She was born January 15, 1929 in rural Altamont, Kansas to Billy "Bert" and Mabel Edith (Madron) Solomon. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Altamont and was a 1947 graduate of Labette County Community High School.
Following high school, she worked at Hallmark Cards in Parsons. On September 5, 1948, she and Glen Dale Carnahan were married at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Through the years, Velma provided a loving home for their five children and their friends and assisted her husband in their dairy and farming operations.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont where she had served as church and Sunday school pianist and was a member of the White Cross ladies group. Her family was her passion. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending their activities. She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, quilting, playing the piano, working word-search and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and attending Country Music shows in Branson.

Steve Carnahan (Val) of Altamont, KS
Mike Carnahan (Niki) of Parsons, KS
Randy Carnahan (Jennifer) of Coffeyville, KS
One Daughter – Judy Sprague (Larry) of rural Parsons, KS
Numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren
Many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends and extended family at Woodridge Estates
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Carnahan, on May 17, 2011.
A private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. Friends may stop by to sign the register and view Mrs. Carnahan from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
