Vera Marie Groner, 96, of St. Paul, died at 9:50 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
She was born July 1, 1912, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Edward A. and Agnes E. (Long) George. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul where she graduated from St. Francis High School in 1929.
Following high school graduation, she taught three years at Moriarity country school.
On February 12, 1934, she and Eugene A. "Gene" Groner were married in St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. He preceded her in death July 14, 1999.
Through the years, she worked as assistant cashier at Exchange State Bank in St. Paul, and also served as secretary to both the St. Paul School Board and St. Francis Rectory.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors Include:
One Son – Gary A. Groner and his wife, Pam Leon, KS
Two Daughters – Jolene Born and her husband, John Wichita, KS
Jean Breton and her husband, John Austin, TX
Son-in-law – Marty Kinney Oklahoma City, OK
Fifteen Grandchildren
Thirty-Four Great-Grandchildren
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, three children and one granddaughter.
The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, at the church. The Parish rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, at the church, where the family will receive friends immediately following.
