Vera Jean Van Mieghem, 87, of Parsons, died at 6:10 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Woodridge Estates, in Parsons, where she had resided since September 2004.
She was born December 18, 1920, in Parsons, Kansas, to William and Sadie (Evans) Bush. She grew up and attended schools in Parsons.
She and Charles L. Van Mieghem were married December 22, 1938, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in South Mound, Kansas. They lived on a farm northeast of Parsons for many years before moving to Parsons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. He preceded her in death in August 1989.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bingo, and bowled on various bowling leagues. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Scoop and AARP.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jean; her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the parish Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Restoration Fund or Hospice Care of Kansas. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
