Vera B. (Volmer) Diskin

Vera B. (Volmer) Diskin, 91, of St. Paul, died at 6:20 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

She was born May 30, 1918, in St. Paul, Kansas, to George and Rose (Knott) Volmer. She grew up in St. Paul where she attended Odell country school and was a 1937 graduate of St. Francis High School.

She and Patrick Diskin, Jr. were married on November 20, 1939, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Following marriage, the couple farmed in St. Paul where they raised their family of six children. Vera also worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons from 1967 until retiring in 1981.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Altar Society, and sixty-year member of Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, growing flowers and gardening. Vera especially enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren and will be fondly remembered for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls and noodles.

Two Daughters – Mary Paula Goodsel and husband, A.J. St. Clair, MI
Rose Mary "Rosie" Stevens and husband, Ron Independence, KS
Twenty-Two Grandchildren
Thirty-One Great-Grandchildren
One Brother – Cecil Volmer St. Paul, KS
Two Sisters – Rosemary O'Toole Girard, KS
Clara Belle Ebert Flush, KS

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Diskin, Jr., on April 20, 1984; two brothers, George and Bill Volmer; and one sister, Garnett Boaz.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, at the church. The Parish rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at the church where the family will receive friends immediately following.

Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church or Prairie Mission Retirement Village Activity Fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
