Vernell E. Golston

Vernell E. Golston, Sr., 64, of Parsons, passed away at his home at 4:35 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017.

He was born September 25, 1953 at Wichita, Kansas to Luther and Bertha (Key) Golston. He grew up and attended school in Wichita and later graduated from the Wichita State University. He was united in marriage to Cleo M. Conger on August 19, 1973 at the Pleas Chapel Church of God In Christ of Parsons. Following their marriage, they lived in Parsons where Vernell worked as a self-employed carpenter. He also worked for a time for the MKT Railroad, the Kansas Ammunition Plant, the former Townsman Motel and the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.

He enjoyed working on cars and especially loved fishing. He had attended the Watson Memorial Church of God In Christ of Parsons.

Survivors include his wife, Cleo, of the home; two sons, Jermaine Golston of Pittsburg and Vernell Golston, Jr. of Parsons; two daughters, Tesa Golston and Robin Golston, both of Parsons; sixteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his mother, Bertha Golston of Wichita; three brothers, Mark Golston of New York, Kenneath Golston of Wichita and Eric Golston of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six sisters, Ruby Davis of Wichita, Brenda Manuel of Wichita, Tyronda Rippatoe of Wichita, Carolyn Williams of Wichita, Delorse Woods of Alabama and Belinda Davis of California. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his infant twin-brother, Willie C. Golston and a brother, Terry Golston.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Cremation will follow the service. Memorial donations are suggested to a fund to offset expenses and these may be left at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
