Vernon L. Barnett, of rural Altamont, passed away at 3:45 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Landmark Hospital in Joplin, MO.
He was born January 12, 1932 in rural Altamont to Frank Ora Barnett and Violet Clara (Davidson) Barnett. He grew up and attended school there and graduated from the Labette County Community High School.
He worked as a machinist for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad for many years. He later worked for Parsons Precision Products, now Ducommon, in Parsons until his retirement. He was an avid coyote hunter. He also enjoyed wood carving, fishing and hunting.
He was marred to Faye Murphy on June 17, 1950 at Altamont, Kansas. She preceded him in death in February of 1999. He was married to Carolyn (Walls) Ward on March 11, 2006. She survives of the home.

Four Great-grandchildren: Maliegha Vietti, Teegan Vietti, Pierson Vietti
And Maelynn Fordyce

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Huddleston, who passed away in February of 2004 and a granddaughter, Tami Faye Huddleston, who passed away in November of 1985, three sisters, Verdna Colleen Barnett, Cleta Marie Hosfelt and Leda Rae Clark as well as his brother and sister-in-law Alfred and Wilma (Murphy) Nading.
Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in the Fellowship Hall of the Altamont Methodist Church from 10 a.m., to 8 p.m, Friday, July 3, 2020.
Following cremation, burial will be at the Lake Creek Cemetery at a later date.
