Victor L. Jackson, M.D., 89, longtime Altamont physician, died at 6:45 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society where he had resided the past year.
He was born October 16, 1920, in Simpson, Louisiana, to Robert Lee and Victoria (Cooley) Jackson. He grew up and attended schools in Louisiana where he graduated from Simpson High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in math and physics from Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches.
He then served during World War II in the United States Navy and United States Marines from July 31, 1942, through October 29, 1945, and later in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his discharge, he attended Louisiana State University School of Medicine. After completing his residency in Wichita, he moved to Altamont where he established a family practice and served the community of Altamont and surrounding areas until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association and the LSU Alumni Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching car racing and doing home repairs.
He and Willie Marie Jones were married June 6, 1945, in New York City, New York.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Lee Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
