Vincent Yanez, Sr.

Vincent Yanez, Sr., 91, of Parsons died at 12:15 a.m., Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home.

He was born August 13, 1927 in Parsons, Kansas to Romulo and Bernabe (Sanchez) Yanez. As a young boy, he grew up in Parsons where he attended elementary school, graduated from Parsons High School, and attended Parsons Junior College.

He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1945-1947 in Okinawa and in the United States Army from 1950-1952 in South Korea as a member of the 930 th Ordnance Ammunition Company.

He and Juanita Perez were married March 1, 1949 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Parsons. While living in Parsons, Vincent worked from 1944-1945 at the M-K-T Railroad, 1947-1950 at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, and 1952-1957 as Ordnance Inspector at the KAAP. While his family was living in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Vincent worked from 1957-1960 as Unit Aide at the U.S. Army Reserve. His family then returned to Parsons. While living in Parsons, he worked from 1960-1963 as Unit Aide at the U.S. Army Reserve in Pryor, Oklahoma and from 1963-1967 as Unit Aide at the U.S. Army Reserve in Miami, Oklahoma. He most recently worked as Property Administrator for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons from 1967 until retiring in 1983.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons, a life member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons, a life member of the Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge #527, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, the Katy Parsons Golf Club, and had served as a board member at St. Vincent DePaul Society. Vincent enjoyed golfing, computers, rummage sales, going to casinos, playing poker to playing cards, and was a collector of many things.

Vincent Yanez, Jr. and his wife, Gina, of Parsons, KS

Emelia Yanez of Overland Park, KS

Anita Cruse and her husband, Stuart, of Parsons, KS

Wuanita Tanner and her husband, Tom, of Parsons, KS

Paul M. Yanez and his wife, Dana, of Parsons, KS

Twenty-One Grandchildren

Numerous Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren

One Brother – Elias Yanez of Parsons, KS

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ruben, Jesse and Rojelio Yanez; and six sisters, Mary Babcock, Guadalupe "Lupe" Hernandez, Avelina Hernandez, Julia Yanez, Francisca Hernandez, and Transito Fuentez.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m. immediately following the rosary at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the St. Patrick's Altar Society. These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
