Virgil Harold Merrick, 77, of Harlingen, Texas, died at 6:45 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2007 in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born February 23, 1929 in Mound Valley, Kansas to Ira and Lena (Kelly) Merrick. He grew up and attended schools in Mound Valley. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. After his discharge, he worked for the City of Wichita until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, golf and traveling.
On December 4, 1992, he and Joan Locke were married in Raymondville, Texas. She survives.

Two Sons - Gregory Merrick Miami, FL John Merrick Lake Worth , FL
One Brother – David Merrick Altamont, KS
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Fowler, Rosalee Wallace and Ilene Russell; and two brothers, Roy and Ira Merrick.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley, Kansas with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont is in charge of funeral arrangements.
