While living in Washington state, Virginia taught the lower grade classes at Puget Sound Holiness Academy in Kent, Washington. She earned a certificate in Master Gardening and spent a lot of her time canning the produce that they grew in their garden. She was also a wonderful cook, showcasing her talents at church camp meetings and other events. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and in her later years became a talented quiltmaker, but her passion in life was serving her Lord and Saviour and raising her four children.
