Virginia M. Rasmussen, 84, of Chetopa, passed away the morning of Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Virginia Mae Yandell was born on January 29, 1942, to Jack and Virginia (Chambers) Yandell in Junction City, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Parsons, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1959.
On October 26, 1959, Virginia and Don Rasmussen were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple were married for 66 years until Don’s passing on February 28, 2026.
In 1970, they took their three little boys to the state of Washington and in 1972, a little girl was born. They lived there for 36 years, and this is where she called home.
While living in Washington state, Virginia taught the lower grade classes at Puget Sound Holiness Academy in Kent, Washington. She earned a certificate in Master Gardening and spent a lot of her time canning the produce that they grew in their garden. She was also a wonderful cook, showcasing her talents at church camp meetings and other events. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and in her later years became a talented quiltmaker, but her passion in life was serving her Lord and Saviour and raising her four children.
Survivors include:
Three sons – Ronald Rasmussen of Buckley, Washington
Donald Rasmussen and his wife, Kristina, of Libby, Montana
Jon Rasmussen and his wife, Kay, of Auburn, Washington
One daughter – Rebekah Trierweiler and her husband, Tony, of Puyallup, Washington
12 grandchildren- Melinda, Amanda (Nana), Alysen, Andrea (Travis), Austin, Aeden, Anna, Wesley (Jessica), Benjamin, Erika (Hunter), Chase and Tonya
Seven great-grandchildren – Audrey, Easton, Iris, Riley, Barrett, Victoria, and Taven
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don Rasmussen; her infant daughter, Esther; her grandson, Anthony Rasmussen, and her sister, Vivian “Susie” Templeton.
The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Altamont Holiness Church in Altamont.
