Virginia L. Kudrick, 92, of Shawnee, KS and formerly of Mound Valley, KS passed away at 9:39 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
Virginia Lee Montgomery was born on September 28, 1933, to Virgil E. and Dosia M. (Kern) Montgomery in Montgomery County, KS. She grew up in Coffeyville, KS and attended McKinley Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1952.
Her first job was at Renner’s Rexall Drug Store in Coffeyville, where she was the fountain manager for four years. Then she worked at Karbe Grocery Market as her next job.
On March 11, 1955, Virginia and George Kudrick were united in marriage at her parents’ home in Coffeyville. The couple settled in rural Mound Valley, KS, where they lived, farmed and raised their family. Throughout the years, Virginia’s cooking talents were put to use as a cook at the Mound Valley Grade School, the dietary manager at Westbrook Manor in Parsons, KS and also as a cook at Coffeyville Community College. She worked in retail at Reed’s Department Store and the Nut House, both in Coffeyville. She also provided home care as a home health care aide for many elderly around the area. She was hardworking and talented in so many ways. For example, she baked and decorated many memorable birthday, wedding and anniversary cakes. For a time, she and George also operated a small grocery store in Mound Valley.
She was a long-time member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church. After she moved to the Kansas City area, she attended Bristol Hill United Methodist Church with her daughter and also church services at the different facilities at which she lived.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela K. Pryor (John) of Leander, TX, Dee A. Weisbach (Mark) of Canon City, CO, and Lisa M. Kudrick of Merriam, KS. Virginia has many dearly loved grandchildren, John Pryor, III, Aaron Pryor, and Jamie Weisbach. Her step-grandchildren include Erin Hibbs, Austin Matile, Samantha Burnham, Jamie Johnson, C.J. Beason, Paul Wilson, and Carlita Wilson. In addition, she has 11 great-grandchildren. She also has two surviving sisters, Dolores Farris of Sedan, KS and Nancy Schmidt of Leavenworth, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Kudrick, Jr.; her son, Martin Kudrick; and her sister, Patsy A. Bowen.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Mound Valley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
Memorials are suggested to the Mound Valley United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s Hospice House, and Elara Caring Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
