January 16, 1934 — April 11, 2023

Winfield

Virginia M. Williams-Wenzel, 89, of Winfield and former long-time Altamont resident, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Virginia Marlene Williams was born on January 16, 1934, to Loycie (Stevenson) Williams and George Williams.  When she was an infant, Virginia moved with her mother, brother and sister to Altamont, where she grew up and went to school.  She was in the Labette County Community High School graduating class of 1952.

In 1959, Virginia and Jim Moore were married in Miami, Oklahoma.  The couple later divorced, but from this union three sons and one daughter became her pride and joy.  Children and animals were two things she could always find time to enjoy.  As her children grew, these two loves met as she taught her children and other children in the county 4-H dog care program.  As the fourth child showed an old sheltie at the county fair dog show, the ring steward asked, "who was the little girl that the sheltie showed?"  The pair went on to win best in show for 7 years.

She became an "Okie" when she moved to Norman, Oklahoma, in 1959 for her husband to continue his education.  They all became faithful, lifelong fans of the Sooners, as she and the boys continued to watch Sooner games.

A lover of the outdoors, Virginia was always planting this or that.  She was an outgoing person, who was always eager to learn.

Five years after divorcing, Virginia met and married a real farmer, Harold Wenzel.  This life fit her with lots of outside time and new things to learn.  Harold had no children of his own, but was happy to become what the kids referred to him as a "step-up" father, which was a title he truly fulfilled for over 30 years.

Survivors include:

Two sons – Greg Moore of Sequim, Washington

Todd Moore of Ponca City, Oklahoma

One adopted daughter – Dovie McCaslin

One granddaughter – Jessica Black

Several cousins

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brice Moore, on October 10, 2014; her husband, Harold Wenzel, on January 23, 2021.
