Walter Warden Bryan, 90, of Parsons, died at 2:50 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society. He had been in failing health.
He was born January 18, 1920, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Charles Elmer and Sarah Mahala (Dowty) Bryan. He grew up and attended school in Neodesha. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Construction Battalion.
He was employed by Standard Oil as a pipefitter for 27 years, farmed and raised livestock on the farm that had been in the family for 103 years, and hung wallpaper as an independent contractor for several years.
He attended the Bethel Church of God in Neodesha and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Neodesha. He enjoyed playing cards and dice.
He and Jessie June Tafoya were married April 5, 1941, in Cherryvale, Kansas. In June of 2008 the couple moved to Parsons where they have lived since. She survives.

He was preceded in death by one son, Walter Lee Bryan; one daughter, Delores June Cohee; daughter-in-law, Cherol Bryan; and three brothers, Elmer, Kenny and Harold Bryan.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010, at Bethel Church of God in Neodesha. Burial will be in Shelly Cemetery near Neodesha. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
