Walter H. Fontelroy, Jr., 59, of Parsons, died unexpectedly at 6:39 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Labette Health.


He was born May 27, 1950, in Parsons, Kansas, to Walter Howard Fontelroy, Sr. and Claretha E. (Ponds) Fontelroy. As a young boy, he attended Douglass Elementary School in Parsons before moving to San Antonio, Texas, where he attended Smith Elementary School. In 1962, his family returned to Parsons where he graduated from Parsons High School in 1968.

Following graduation, he served four years during the Vietnam War where he flew missions in the United States Air Force.

After his honorable discharge in March 1972, he worked as a truck driver before becoming a heating and cooling engineer. He lived in Elkhart, Indiana, a number of years before returning to Parsons. He was currently employed by Old Dominion Freight Line in Parsons.

He and Coleen Seagrave were married and later divorced.

In earlier years, he was a member of Pleas Chapel Sunday School in Parsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 4-6:00 p.m., Sunday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to the Fontelroy Educational Fund for his nieces and nephews. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
