Walter E. Oney, 93, of Edna, formerly of Chetopa, died at 8:47 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at his home.

He was born January 27, 1921 in Meeker, Colorado to Charles and Lura May (Randall) Oney. As a child, he moved with his family to Bluejacket, Oklahoma and as an adult had lived most of his life in Chetopa and Edna.

During World War II, Walter served in the United States Army. Through the years, he had farmed and for over 20 years had worked at the Edna Coop.

He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands.

He and Wilma V. Hallock were married October 4, 1941 in Oswego, Kansas. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include:

Four Grandchildren
Eight Great-Grandchildren
One Brother – Areland Oney Holts Summit, MO
Two Sisters – Erma Jean Guinn Chetopa, KS
Iona Reavis Welch, OK

He was preceded in death by two sons, Gary E. Oney and infant Robert Doyle Oney; one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
