Walter M. Pape, Jr., 84, a lifelong resident of Oswego, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
He was born December 7, 1932 in rural Oswego, Kansas to Walter M. Pape, Sr. and Leona Ruth (Price) Pape. Walter attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
Following high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from July of 1950 to July of 1953. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Southeast Kansas where he worked at Oswego Ford for several years before owning and operating Pap Co Industries where he worked as a master mechanic.
He was a member of Assembly of God Church in Oswego. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying airplanes. Since retiring, he especially enjoyed reading his Bible and spending time with his family and his dog, Angel.
He and Elizabeth Jane Strickland were married May 10, 1953 in Bentonville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2014.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Frank Amershek; one brother, Jim Pape; and one sister, Patty Gartman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette City. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
